Picosure Focus

PicoSure Focus is a picosecond laser treatment designed for skin revitalization and pigment concerns, especially melasma and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH). It delivers ultra-short pulses that rely more on pressure than heat, helping target pigment while minimizing thermal buildup. That lower-heat approach is particularly important for darker skin tones (Fitzpatrick IV–VI), where excess heat can trigger PIH or melasma flares.

Why choose PicoSure Focus for melasma & skin of color

  • Low-heat picosecond pulses: Ultra-short pulse durations treat pigment with less bulk heating, an advantage for melasma and richly pigmented skin.
  • Fractional Focus lens pattern: The Focus lens creates micro-treatment zones that stimulate renewal while leaving surrounding skin intact, supporting even tone with minimal downtime.
  • Designed for tone + texture: Helps soften the look of melasma patches, sun spots, and PIH, while also improving overall texture and fine lines.
  • Skin-of-color protocols: Careful parameter selection, optional test spots, and longer spacing between visits help protect the epidermis and reduce PIH risk.

Key Features and Benefits:

  • Picosecond Technology:

PicoSure operates in picoseconds, which are trillionths of a second, resulting in shorter pulse durations and less heat delivered to the skin compared to traditional lasers.

  • Skin Rejuvenation:

PicoSure can improve skin tone and texture, reduce the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and acne scars, and minimize the appearance of age spots and sun damage.

  • Tattoo Removal:

PicoSure is effective in removing tattoos by shattering the ink particles into smaller fragments that the body can naturally eliminate. However, there is an important distinction: PicoSure Focus does not perform tattoo removal. The Focus capability comes from adding a Focus (fractional) lens to the PicoSure handpiece. With the Focus lens attached, the device is optimized for skin quality and discoloration. Tattoo removal uses PicoSure without the Focus lens.

  • Minimal Downtime:

Due to the short pulse duration and reduced heat, PicoSure generally involves minimal downtime and side effects.

  • Versatility:

PicoSure can be used to treat various skin types and address a range of concerns, including melasma, nevus of Ota, and Hori’s nevus.

  • Tailored Treatments:

The device allows for adjustments to spot size and pulse width, enabling customized treatment plans for different conditions and skin types.

What to expect:

  • Treatment time: About 10–30 minutes per session, depending on the area(s) treated.
  • Sensation: Often described as a quick “rubber-band snap.” Topical anesthetic and cooling can be used for comfort.
  • After effects: Temporary redness or warmth are common; makeup is usually fine the next day unless advised otherwise.
  • Number of sessions: Melasma generally requires a series. Your provider will space treatments to balance efficacy with recovery and may recommend maintenance to help manage future flares.

Pre- & post-care (for melasma):

  • Before: Avoid tanning and unprotected sun exposure; share your full medication and skincare routine.
  • After: Prioritize daily SPF, gentle cleansing, and moisturizer. Avoid heat exposure (saunas, hot yoga), intense workouts, and exfoliating acids until cleared by your provider.
  • Maintenance: Because melasma can recur, periodic touch-ups and consistent sun protection are key to keeping skin bright.
